When we started working, it was just for the front of this antique saltbox. Then the owner wanted us to do the barn. A couple of years later, he got terrible ice dams. We shoveled his roof and made sure he was the first on the list to get a new roof in the spring on the balance of the home.
The unique thing about this job is that we tore off the old wood roof, installed ice and water shield over the entire roof area, and then used a material called cedar breather which allows airflow, permitting rapid drying of the shingles. This is a contemporary method used on traditional wood shingles that doesn’t alter the appearance and has the benefits of complete ice protection.
